Escape Sold in January 2019

After eight years of living aboard full time, we are at a place in our life where we are ready to sell Escape. We are in the process of building a new home and will be moving back to Mt. Airy, NC.

We are listing Escape for sale without a broker's assistance.
Escape is located for the winter in Vero Beach, Florida.

Escape is a Stabilized 2002 DeFever 49’ Cockpit Motor Yacht. The 49’ Cockpit Motor Yacht is built with popular DeFever 44 Offshore Cruiser interior layout but with a 5’ longer hull. The longer hull increases the waterline length about 21% and adds space for additional storage and fuel tank.

Escape has the sundeck layout with the full beam master stateroom including the center line queen bed. The master stateroom has eight ports for good ventilation while at anchor. The cockpit which is great for fishing, also makes boarding easy from the dock or dinghy. There is room for entertaining on the large sundeck and fly bridge.

When we were boat shopping we wanted a boat that we could live aboard comfortably and yet is a safe stable boat for offshore crossings. Escape has completed the Great Loop and also traveled from Florida to Venezuela and back. She has proven to be both comfortable and safe for coastal cruising and offshore passage-making. We don't do offshore passages when the sea state is such that you need stabilizers, but the Naiads with their Multisea II control make any sea state more comfortable and when we under estimate the conditions the Naiads are nice.

The walk in engine room has enough room to move around and maintain the engines and other systems. The CPMY has storage space for full time cruising.

In the eight years we have lived aboard we have made annual trips from North Carolina south to Florida and several trips to the Bahamas. Our longest passage was from Eleuthera to Beaufort SC, 537 NM in 82 hr 39 min.

Our previous boat was 26' Chris Craft sports cruiser. We were concerned that the CPMY might be too big for two of us to handle. We have found that wind doesn't blow around the much heavier boat like it did the lighter Chris Craft and the two of us are comfortable handling Escape.

This Video was taken of us arriving at Great Sale, in the Abaco islands Bahamas. We left Lake Worth at 1:30 am and arrived Great Sale at 5:30 pm. This is a 99 nautical mile trip.

Escape is a full displacement hull.
She moves very efficiently through the water at less than hull speed.

A good view of solar panels.

Large cockpit with Magnum grill and fiberglass propane tank.
Extra chairs for guest.

 "Bruiser" 177 lb anchor

The sundeck refrigerator is in the cabinet below the sink

The large bench seats have a lot of storage and double as a day bed while traveling.

Icom Radio - Command Mike - Vesper AIS - Lowrance Depth/Fish Finder
Raymarine eS127 12" Multifunction Display

The dinghy can be launched in just a few minutes using the electric davit.
The dinghy rides very secure tied down to the sundeck roof.

10.5' AB RIB with electric start Honda
The battery and fuel tank are in the bow locker.
We selected the AB because it is a stable and dry riding dinghy.

The 660 watts of solar provide the bulk of the power while anchored.

Direct TV dish on top of the Track-It antenna rotator.
The Rogue Wave WIFI amplifier has a directional antenna that can be used at anchor
 with the Track-It system.

The windshield cover reduces the heat in the salon.

The Fortress FX55 is light enough to be deployed using the dingy if need be.
Yet it has tremendous holding ability. This one has never been in the water.

The biggest use of electricity on most cruising boats is the refrigeration.
The Vitrifrigo refrigerator can be powered on either 12 vdc or
120 vac. It uses less than 6 amps dc when running.

The electric stove can be powered by the inverter for a short period
When the batteries are full by 1:00 pm and there is plenty of sun the stove top or oven can be used
taking power from both the solar panels and the batteries. After cooking, batteries will have time to recover before sunset.

The microwave easily runs on the inverter.

The master stateroom has lots of hanging closet space and drawers.

Walk in laundry room with apartment size washer and vented dryer

Side windows in the salon and the galley have pull down shades

All three doors in the salon have pull down insect screens.

The PC is running Coastal Explorer. The PC is connected to the Raymarine
course computer via a USB to NEMA183 adapter.
The PC can be used as a chart plotter to steer the boat.
I use Coastal Explorer for cruise planning and generating routes
that are transferred to the Raymarine Chart plotter to steer the boat.

One of two new Raymarine chart plotters.
The cell phone is in a Wilson Sleek cell phone amplifier
that is connected to a outdoor antenna.

DeLorme inReach Satellite Communicator
It will send and receive text messages from anywhere and its waterproof.
You can also get weather reports while outside of cell phone range.

Magnum Remote Control - Icom IC-M802 Single Side-band Radio

Naiad Multisea Control - Stereo Radio  - Icom IC-M602 VHF Radio

This is a big V birth. I am 6'2" tall and can sleep cross ways.

 Forward Head

Access to back of the electrical panel and hanging lockers.

I added insulation to the water heater and replaced the nonadjustable thermostat
with a digital thermostat.

To remove the batteries from there rack you only need to remove the
ratchet straps and remove the hinge pins and set the cover aside.

The fuel polish/transfer system uses a Walbro fuel Pump to draw fuel from the supply manifold
through a Racor 900 2 micron filter then returns fuel to the supply manifold. By adjusting the
colored valve handles its easy to select which tank fuel will be taken from and which to return to.

The Magnum 2800 watt inverter/charger is connected to the batteries by a short
run of 4/0 wire. There is very little voltage drop.

The Six FullRiver 8L16 AGM batteries supply both thee house dc loads and the inverter.
The batteries are rarely less than 75% full in the morning and are charged back to full
almost every day.

There is a supply and a return manifold.
Its easy to select which of the 4 fuel tanks to draw from and return to.

The 12.5 kw  Westerbeke can easily run everything on Escape but with our
solar it is not called on often. We run the generator for 10 minutes each
week that it hasn't been used.

I replaced the transmission coolers 11-19-2018.
The Perkins Saber M135 is the last of the non computer controlled naturally aspirated engines.
These engines do not need any electricity to run only the starter to start.
They are clean burning, very reliable and fuel efficient.

PPG ABC3 ablative bottom paint. This is the best paint I have ever seen.
The metal rudder, struts, shafts and props were sprayed with Zinc primer and
painted over with Petit Hydrocoat Eco

I haven't ever used the direct overboard flush so I plug the through hull fitting
with a cork and paint over it to make bottom cleaning easier

Look at this. 660 watts of solar panels making 670 watts at 13.6 volts and 49.2 amps
I have actually seen more than this on 3 occasions.
